Position Details

The University is seeking a talented Visual Interactive Designer who will work closely with stakeholders across the University to create user-focused and goal-driven designs for the University website and various other digital properties.

The Visual Interaction Designer will be passionate about crafting excellent experiences for users across audiences of the University’s digital properties. They should be comfortable with conducting UX research and helping craft documentation and standards. They will be an authority on campus in usability and web design principles, web standards and best practices.

This position reports to the Manager, Digital Communications and Design and works in a team composed of print and web designers and web developers that work on both print and digital material for the University. This position is housed in the department of Communications, Marketing and Government Relations and collaborates with a diverse team both inside and outside of that department.

The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification review for Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) positions. As such, the classification level currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.

Position Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in new media, graphic design, information technology, computer science or human-computer interaction.
  • Five years working professionally in web or interaction design, with an excellent foundation in design principles (typography, colour, layout, and brand systems).
  • Strong knowledge of UX methodology, particularly as applied to web-based and mobile-based applications.
  • An exceptional portfolio that shows your work and ability to solve problems.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills – must be able to function as a thought leader as well as an individual contributor.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (ie. Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.).
  • Proficiency with frontend development technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Skilled meeting facilitator with good communication and analytics skills.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$4,772.00 - $5,403.00 monthly

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$4,772.00 - $6,034.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 11)
