UX/UI Designer I

Safe Software is looking for a talented UX/UI Designer to join the FME Form product team at our new headquarters in Surrey, BC.

At Safe, we’re on a mission to help the world gain more value from its data. We do that by building data integration software that lets data freely flow to all who need it. Over 10,000 organizations in 128 countries already rely on our software, and we want your help to increase our rapid growth! Join our team and work for a top-reviewed employer that cares about what it does, the community that it’s a part of, and the ‘Safers’ that contribute to its success.

About The Team

FME Form product group is a cross-functional team consisting of software developers, product owners, quality analysts, software development interns, and UX/UI designers. As a part of this close-knit and widely diverse team, you will work together with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to the continuous enhancement of the user experience in the flagship FME Form product. You’ll also collaborate with other UX/UI designers to ensure a consistent experience across the FME Platform. Our team values collaboration and open feedback and we look forward to adding your voice and experience to the mix.

What You'll Be Doing

We’re looking for an intermediate designer to help deliver UX solutions that measurably improve the workflows of our users. On any given day, you might be:

  • Building out low-fidelity wireframes and mockups, or polishing up a finished interface.
  • Using user data and statistics to guide your decisions.
  • Working with Safe’s user researcher and communicating what you’ve learned.
  • Sharing and contributing to the design practice at Safe alongside other designers.
  • Collaborate with other design stakeholders to create a comprehensive design system for the entire FME product portfolio.
  • Develop new, and enhance the existing interface design guidelines, standards and best practices to improve Safe’s development process to make it more user-centric to deliver on business objectives.
  • Iteratively design and test user interfaces and interactions to make sure features are useful, intuitive, and user-friendly.
  • Create UX artifacts, such as wireframes and prototypes (low-fidelity and high-fidelity mockups), interaction models, and journey maps.
  • Discuss and make strategic design and user experience decisions, participate in internal reviews, and coach teammates and peers on design practices.
  • Collaborate with the UX Design team to strategize ways to improve our product’s current user interface and user experience based on customer research and studies

Bonus

  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or other development tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with working in an Agile environment (Kanban).
  • Familiarity with data visualization and transformation.
  • UX/UI design experience on a Windows or Mac Desktop application.
  • Previous experience with AI

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

Safers come from a variety of backgrounds with diverse skills and knowledge. That said, we find that those who are most successful in this role have experience with the following areas.

  • A bachelor’s degree or certification in UX, UI, interaction design, graphic design, or a related field; or previous experience creating UX/UI design processes.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant industry experience, and a proven track record of designing UX/UI for software.
  • Advanced skills in interaction design, information architecture, usability evaluation and user research, including the creation of low and high-fidelity mockups, wireframes, prototypes, journey maps, etc.
  • Comfortable developing wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that effectively communicate interaction and design intent.
  • An advocate for user research and testing your ideas - While you may be talented and have an intuitive feel for design, you realize that nothing can replace actual user input.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - in this role, you will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and teams across the organization so it is important that you are able to articulate details clearly, concisely, and confidently.
  • Passionate about design - You will be an advocate for design and your users on the team and can challenge the team’s ideas and plans in a logical way.
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter and are able to work independently with minimal management supervision, set schedules, and manage deadlines to deliver on assigned projects.
  • You are open-minded and possess a highly collaborative, empathetic mindset that allows you to build trust and accountability with your peers.
  • Working knowledge of visual design and prototyping tools - Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Figma, Sketch.
  • A portfolio of previous projects that you are proud to talk about!
