The User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) Designer will work with Marketing, Conversion, CX, Operations, Technical Product Owners (TPO) and IT team to drive the user experience design process from conceptualization to detailed user interfaces through implementation of features and usability review. This individual will work closely with the other teams to build functional features and products through design work and user research.
This is a 1-year contract, remote position that can be renewed based on performance.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
· Work collaboratively with other designers and developers to build scalable solutions to improve the user experience
· Design, conceptualize, and create customer-centric experiences across Direct Energy’s entire product lifecycle
· Develop user flow, wireframes, mockups and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
· Contribute to the development of design systems
· Design responsive landing pages and site interactions to segment users, effectively convey product benefits and drive higher conversions
· Design mobile application experiences and interactions, effectively convey product benefits and drive higher retention
· Rapidly produce concepts and prototypes for proof of concept opportunities
· Communicate high-level design strategies and detailed interaction behaviors
· In project meetings, design sessions, or other relevant contexts, champion the needs of the user, focusing on a human-centered design philosophy
· Work closely with lean, cross-functional Agile teams
· Create lasting, effective partnerships with our engineering, product, and business teams to find elegant and practical solutions to address design challenges
· Facilitate effective design, test concepts, and conduct quantitative and/or qualitative research with users, such as usability studies, interviews, & surveys
· Remain up to date on best practices, trends and patterns in modern UX/UI design
· Improve the user experience and iterate upon it in accordance with user-testing feedback
· Balance between business requirements and user needs
· Employ existing UX patterns & defined conventions and standards
· Incorporate user feedback, design best practices, and business understanding into effective designs.
· Engage in iterative design processes and agile development methodologies
· Produce design assets from low fidelity concepts through to high fidelity wireframes that can be brought to life by the Digital Development teams

Minimum Requirements:
· Certificate in UX/UI Design
· Demonstrated ability of UX and visual design skills in mobile apps and web experiences (portfolio required)
· Strong understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and practical applications
· Understanding of web, email and digital capabilities, limitations, and design best practices.
· Demonstrated ability to define innovative approaches to complex design problems
· Proven experience in applying user-centered design principles
· Ability to translate audience, technology and other key product requirements into designs that afford users effective and efficient experiences
· A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, usability and accessibility concerns.
· Fluency with industry-standard design tools such as InVision, UXPin, Figma, Axure, AdobeXD, Sketch, Balsamiq, Keynote, etc.
· Process driven, strong interaction design skills, careful attention to detail
· Highly developed presentation skills and ability to tell data stories
· Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with a wide variety of internal and external parties
· Experience documenting interaction details, visual design specifications, and QA of implemented product
· Knowledge of HTML and CSS
· Passion for emerging technologies and drive to innovate
Preferred Qualifications:
· Advanced knowledge of Figma design tool
· Motion and graphic design experience
· Experience building and working with design systems, and ability to extend them to scale products in new and bold directions
· Fluency with Adobe Creative Cloud tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator
· Degree in Graphic Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field
