What You'll do:

The UI Design Intern will play a crucial role in the visual and interactive aspects of our domain knowledge injection tools. You will work closely with software engineers and software engineering managers to create user-centered designs that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define the user experience, information architecture and visual design of the different applications developed by GeologicAI.
  • Design interactive models and prototypes illustrating new functionalities to be integrated into GeologicAI applications
  • Design wireframes for web applications in compliance within the standards of usability and accessibility.
  • Optimize and simplify the user experience and the design of the user interface.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to gather feedback.
  • Collaborate with the development team to ensure designs are implemented accurately.
  • Create advanced prototypes for use in User tests and to be used as a technical artefact by the Development team
  • Present the wireframes or prototypes to a large audience of different stakeholders.
  • Assist the team in defining, creating and developing new enhancements and improvements in-line with business objectives and most importantly, the needs of the end User.
  • Create UX specifications for web-based applications.
  • Work closely with internal teams to gather insights, share findings, and contribute to the development of innovative business and product design strategies.
  • Develop ways of measuring current and future metrics, which can be used to quantify value of innovations / continuous improvements.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to UI/UX Design, Graphic Design, or a similar field.
  • Have fundamental knowledge of design systems, agile development, or product management practices.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar tools.
  • Expert knowledge of user-centered design principles.
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing design thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Promote best design practices for usability and accessibility to achieve ergonomic, intuitive, inclusive and engaging user interfaces
  • Have advanced knowledge of user experience design methods (design thinking, user research, information architecture, user interface design, interaction design and user testing).
  • Have proficient knowledge of visual and accessibility design and communication principles.
  • An empathetic, human-centric approach to user experience design is a must.
  • Highly professional, with the ability to deliver solid work on tight schedules.
  • Initiative design work and the ability to work independently and in a team with excellent collaborative skills.

Bonus Points For:

  • A portfolio of work you have done that demonstrates the design methods and design rational to the user problems in your solutions.
  • Experience in design thinking techniques to conduct workshops.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.

Details of Role:

  • Duration: 4-8 months, based on 40 hours per week
  • Work Location: Calgary Head Office or Remote
