Fabric by Gerber Life, the one-stop shop for new parents to secure their family's financial futures, is looking for a UX Research Intern. Acquired by Western & Southern, we have the backing of a 130+ year-old company, balanced with the culture and velocity of a startup. This role will report to the Senior Product Designer, Exploration.
The ideal candidate is someone who can problem solve, plan strategically, and think tactically to understand user behaviors and motivations. You’ll be able to help shape the product with data gained through quantitative and qualitative research. You’ll collaborate with a close-knit product design team, contributing to and leading innovative projects that affect users across all of our products. This role is a paid internship and 100% remote.
Come join us as we re-make a $650 billion industry and work to improve the lives of millions of families.
Your role at Fabric:
- Be an advocate for the customer—get to know our users through user testing and interviews, and know how to balance velocity without sacrificing quality results
- Craft compelling narratives about our users’ needs, attitudes, aspirations, expectations, obstacles, and motivations
- Work collaboratively with senior product designers and product managers to run usability studies
- Build out surveys for new and existing users across products
- Analyze results and generate actionable insights
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Familiarity with user personas and the basics of various quantitative and qualitative research methods (i.e. surveys, usability studies, contextual inquiry, etc.)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills. You can clearly articulate your vision and findings.
- Ability to work in an agile, dynamic work environment with a start-up mentality
- Proficiency in Figma and modern prototyping tools (preferred, not required)
- Experience with UserTesting.com (preferred, not required)
- Currently pursuing an Advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Anthropology, Statistics, or a related field (preferred, not required)
- Availability to work up to 40 hours/week between the time of hiring to the end of the year (negotiable, excluding federal holidays)
What we offer:
- Fully remote — your commute can be directly from your bed to your desk, and our dress code is sweatpants-friendly. It also means more flexibility in your schedule and better work-life balance.
- Agility & financial strength — Fabric recently became part of Western & Southern Financial Group, which has been selling insurance for 135 years. It’s the best of both worlds—we have the agility, flexibility, and growth opportunities of a small startup with the resources and stability of a large corporation.
- A diverse workplace — We’re big on DEI and strive to create an open and transparent work environment—that means published salary bands to promote pay equality, Days of Action for activism and/or charity work, among other initiatives. We believe that an inclusive culture drives innovation, and results in better products and experiences for the communities we serve.
Pay range:
This is a paid internship paying $17.50-26/hr, based on years in school. This role does not include benefits.
