Applied Research Solutions is seeking up to two part-time User Experience (UX) Co-Op/Interns to assist senior developers to design efficient and intuitive experiences for a variety of users on our suite of tools. The UX Interns needs to have an innovative and creative outlook and will work with AFRL staff and other contractors to support the Hangar 18 Program. This includes working with our software engineers and graphics team to design the look-and-feel, working with the users to design user interfaces, working with cloud architects to provide efficient workflows, and working with our developers on implementation. This is a temporary, part-time position that is estimated to last three months.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with senior developers and designers to create user focused tools and experiences for a broad range of new projects and existing products
- Work closely with the Product Owner, End Customer, and End Users to balance needs and wants into Initiatives, Epics, and Stories
- Work closely with the Development team to refine Epics and User Stories into incremental functionality that provide benefit to the End User in a timely manner
- Create designs that align with the user needs; prepare interaction diagrams, mockups, and wireframes
- Design and present work to team members for review and feedback
- Conduct testing to ensure that the developed functionality meets the user’s needs
- Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications
- Deliver presentations and workshops on User Experience and Use Centered Design to audiences of varied experience
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen
- Entry level Intern position with experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or similar role
- In a Bachelor’s degree program in graphics design, computer science, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with a variety of design and prototyping tools such as AdobeXD, Figma, Miro, Mural
- Familiarity with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript development or experience collaborating with developers utilizing these technologies
- Must possess a portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions
- Must possess an understanding of User Centered Design and ability to conduct new or experienced teams through the process
- Understanding of graphic design and UI design concepts, and human factors for software applications
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other UI development tools
- Must possess excellent writing, communication, organization, presentation, and storytelling skills. Comfortable speaking to a large audience
- Experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs
- Familiarity with designing JavaScript frameworks and libraries (e.g., Angular, React, VUE, Material UI) preferred
- Have an innovative and creative outlook
