Summary:

SSAI Seeks a User Interface Designer I to support work at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, (JPL) National Aeronautics and Space Administration, (NASA) in Pasadena, CA. This person will plan and conduct formative user research to define user needs, and then partner with software developers, product managers, and stakeholders to articulate a broad range of possible future product directions. Translate observed user needs into implementable features, and will plan and implement rounds of iterative prototyping to progressively refine their concepts, both on paper and with prototyping tools. At every stage of work, they will collect and support their decisions with data.

Required Qualifications:

• Plan and conduct user research to understand underlying user needs
• Author concept storyboards to articulate a range of possible product future directions
• Rapidly prototype systems blending paper, software and simulation
• Iteratively refine fidelity of software systems
• Collaborate with developer teams to implement and refine the articulated product vision

Desired Qualifications:

• A portfolio of shipped, successful products created to solve complex technical challenges that presents finished artifacts and also explains their design rationale
• Experience performing at least 3 different methods of user research and reporting on the results
• Ability to create workflow sketches, wireframes, mockups, clickable prototypes and production assets
• Good communication skills and a flexible approach to customer relations

Our client is a research and development lab federally funded by NASA and managed by Caltech. JPL manages many of NASA's robotic missions exploring Earth, the solar system, and our universe.
