Join our award-winning web team! We’re looking for:

Invention, imagination, originality and talent while working within a team to create amazing graphic and user interfaces for university websites and online media.

If you visualize digital works through the users’ eyes; take well-designed concepts and create smart, beautiful , accessible websites and digital communications; and create simple and intuitive interfaces while effectively communicating conceptual ideas and design rationale – this is the job for you.

You are required to provide a strong online/digital portfolio featuring web and other digital interfaces.

The primary functions of this role include:

  • Providing design, layout and structure on websites and emails
  • Developing content strategies and plans
  • Organizing, updating and maintaining content
  • Coordinating content between various stakeholders
  • Working with in-house writers, photographers and videographers
  • Selecting photos and developing graphic elements for social media, websites and emails

Examples include mst.edu, cec.mst.edu, academic and administrative department sites, mass emails, etc.

You’ll also:

  • Work closely within our team to translate requirements, feature concepts and use case scenarios to create designs that are usable and compelling
  • Produce, present and iterate design visualizations to deliver the best experience and/or improve engagement opportunities
  • Identify creative solutions to user interface (UI) challenges and provide design Q&A as needed
  • Help define user requirements; create wireframes and/or live development sites; and conceptualize the visual design of the UI for online and digital projects
  • Advocate for the user while balancing business and branding goals
  • Help define and document the online and digital brand guidelines to ensure consistency and effectiveness
  • Identify and drive new usability improvements across web and digital products
  • Collaborate with teams on project and special campaign efforts, from concept through implementation and delivery
  • Coordinate interface solutions with team and other campus departments when required
  • Work independently and on a team; share responsibility for team deliverables
  • Communicate and interact to readily and clearly define issues and predict effects and outcomes

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-3 years in website development/management and/or user interface/user experience design (UI/UX)
  • Exceptional, clean visual and user-focused design skills
  • Eye for detail and experience designing simple and intuitive user interfaces
  • Proficiency in creating wireframes
  • Working knowledge of responsive and adaptive design and a demonstrated understanding of the technologies that power the web: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, etc.
  • Understanding of server side languages and content management systems: what they do and how they affect the web
  • Bachelor’s degree in Web Development, Digital Communication, Visual Design, Interactive Design, Web Design, Graphic Design, Instructional Technology, Technical Communication or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and ability can be acquired is necessary
  • Strong online/digital portfolio featuring web and other digital interfaces
  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with and enthusiasm for emerging online technologies
  • Excellent written, oral and diagrammatic communication skills
  • Experience using Sketch or Figma
  • Willingness to push for the cutting edge of graphic and user interfaces while maintaining the integrity of the university’s brand
  • Experience with social media, video, print and photography skills
  • Some knowledge of A/B testing and a strong desire to validate design assumptions through qualitative and quantitative testing
  • Drive to continually learn about our university, users and industry while keeping up with the latest in web trends, design and technology
  • Higher education experience
