Job Summary:

The UX Researcher works on GoodMaps School Research Project with blind students and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) at schools for the blind across the country. The UX Researcher is responsible for designing and conducting user research studies for the School Research Project. The UX Researcher will work closely with the Product & UX Team to deliver insights that drive innovation and improve the overall user experience for blind students and teachers, and work closely with the Research Project Coordinator to design and implement user research studies that align with the goals and objectives of the School Research Project. The position is a maximum of 20 hours per week and remote.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • UX Researcher - Remote with travel. Travel may be up to 100% at times and will be within the contiguous United States.
  • Conduct user research studies, including focus groups, remote moderated in-depth interviews (IDIs), surveys, and usability testing to inform the design and development of GoodMaps' products for blind students and teachers.
  • Work closely with the School Research Project team to identify research needs and priorities and develop a research plan that aligns with the product roadmap and business goals.
  • Analyze and synthesize research findings into actionable insights and recommendations and present them to stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure that all user research studies are conducted within established UX processes and procedures.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Possess excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and experience in conducting research studies, particularly focus groups and remote moderated IDIs.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports on research findings, including deep dives and executive summaries.
  • Create and maintain user personas, scenarios, and journey maps to guide product development.
  • Test and iterate on design solutions through prototyping and user testing.
  • Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design throughout the product development process.
  • Exhibit strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.


Education and Experience:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as psychology, sociology, or marketing research.
  • Have 2-3 years of experience in research coordination, data analysis, and report writing with a focus on accessibility and people with disabilities.
  • Experienced working with children in a research setting preferred.
  • Experience conducting IDIs and other research studies.
  • Experience with remote research tools, such as Zoom, Teams, and SurveyMonkey, is a plus.


Physical Requirements:

The remote position requires the candidate to have access to a reliable internet connection and a quiet work environment.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
