User Experience - Product Intern

Job Description

About Your Role:

The Dotdash Product team is looking for an enthusiastic and curious Product Management Intern for Summer 2023.

You will have the opportunity to participate in and learn about different aspects of the software development lifecycle in an agile product organization from a product manager’s point of view.

By the end of the program, you will possess an understanding of what the product manager/product owner role encompasses. You will actively contribute to the goals of the product organization and complete hands-on projects directly related to our business, along with workshops preparing you for post-college life (resume prep, interview skills) … plus, some fun events throughout the summer!

About Your Contributions:

You will be immersed in a rotational program over the summer covering the following:

  • Product Discovery & User Research — Creating personas; conducting user interviews with end-users and internal stakeholders; participate in user testing and feedback sessions to gather insights and iterate on product features.
  • Product Design & Development — Exploring basic user experience concepts; learning about Dotdash Meredith’s tech stack and product offerings; learning how to define and document requirements based on business needs, user feedback, and market research.
  • Agile Project Management — Learning about the Agile Scrum development framework; attending standups and sprint planning meetings; carrying a project from ideation through execution.
  • Product Analytics — Running AB tests and ROI analyses on various product decisions; understanding how a single decision impacts user engagement and revenue KPIs; monitor and analyze product performance metrics and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Digital Media & Advertising Industry Knowledge — Understanding the digital advertising marketplace (“the Internet’s business model”) and basic digital media terms and concepts.
  • Workflow & Tooling — Learning about the varied ways people look for, discover and consume digital content and data, and how to apply that knowledge to building effective, usable internal tools.
  • Product Strategy — Deciding what to build, who we build for, when we build it and what problems we seek to solve; assisting in the development of a product vision, product roadmaps, feature prioritization, and project plans.

About You:

  • You are curious, thoughtful and a self-starter.
  • You possess strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • You often find yourself thinking about any of the following:
  • How systems, technologies and products impact people’s experiences
  • Why an experience or product is enjoyable—what about it delights you?
  • How to complete a task more effectively and efficiently
  • You possess an innate desire to collect, synthesize, and analyze data to inform your decision-making.
  • You have the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are interested in learning more about various facets of the publishing/media industry, including:
  • Consumer-facing experiences
  • Content creation and management
  • Monetization
  • You have a strong interest in product management and technology. Ideally, you have dabbled in some product management via coursework, prior internships and/or personal projects.
