We’re on a mission to transform the way we provide services, share information, and engage with our residents and local businesses online, and need a curious, creative, and innovative regular full-time UX Designer to join the small but mighty team of talented digital professionals working to bring our vision to life.

As the District’s user experience professional, you will have the opportunity to play a leading role in defining, guiding, and communicating our end-to-end process for designing simple, intuitive digital tools and services.

Working collaboratively within our cross-functional agile team, and alongside our engaged product owners and stakeholders, you will drive our UX efforts across the entire lifecycle of our products, from user research to ideation, prototyping, and testing.

Specifically, you will:

  • Design and conduct user research initiatives to identify needs and challenges, then translate that data into compelling UX deliverables, including personas, experience maps, use cases, story boards, and service blueprints;
  • Use your broad knowledge of ideation techniques to enable co-designed solutions, working with stakeholders and the digital team;
  • Develop working artifacts (sketches, wireframes, prototypes) that can be used to effectively communicate, seek feedback, align stakeholders, and make decisions;
  • Continuously identify and advocate for user-centric design changes, refinements, and improvements across all of our products and online services, through review, analysis, and user testing;
  • Contribute to the development, adoption, and maintenance of a design system to ensure a consistent and intuitive user experience across all products;
  • Advocate for user centred approaches with stakeholders across the organization, and inspire, mentor, and share skills with the Digital Services team and beyond.

You will have an inspiring portfolio, and the ability to clearly articulate your work processes and methods, decision-making strategies and collaborative design practices. In addition you will have: a deep understanding and broad knowledge of UX best practices for web applications; strong collaboration skills and experience working with cross-functional teams; ability to work in a blended team of onsite and remote team members, in a fast-paced environment; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; high level of initiative, creativity and flexibility; and skills to use industry standard software (e.g. Figma).

Qualifications

As the successful candidate you will have completed a two-year program in user-centred research and design at a recognized post-secondary Institute, plus sound related experience working as a user experience designer; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 3 years of proven UX design experience, including experience across desktop, mobile and web applications.
