User Experience Designer
Burnaby, BC

The User Experience Designer performs a variety of duties in the development of interactive websites and interactive tools. The User Experience Designer applies client based feedback to create highly interactive screen content for web based mediums using a variety of tools including HTML, CSS and Javascript. Works closely with Business Analysts and Developers. Combines best practice knowledge with end user analysis to drive decision making to ensure a highly usable product.


What you’ll do

  • Lead the development of product information architecture and visual and interface design, using analytics and metrics to make informed design decisions that ensure a highly usable product.
  • Uses a combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build everything a user sees and interacts with on a website—that includes everything from front-end features like fonts, sliders, drop-down menus, and buttons, to the overall manner in which web content like photos, videos, and articles are displayed in the web browser.
  • Conduct user research, interviews and surveys, translating them into personas, user journeys, sitemaps, workflows, wireframes, mockups, prototypes and user-testing experiences that are optimized for the web.
  • Take a Lean UX user-centered design approach, rapidly testing and iterating designs by analyzing the problem, designing a solution, working with users to learn if the solution is useful and building and implementing the solution.
  • Prepare digital assets for the development team.
  • Quality assurance testing for the development team.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, or visual design), Human Computer Interaction, Computer science, or a related field or equivalent practical experience plus five years of UX design experience completed by a Superior skills in interaction design, information architecture, usability evaluation, and user research.
  • Extensive experience using UX design best practices to design solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in crafting usable digital interfaces using UX software such as Adobe Suite, Sketch, or In-Vision is a must.
  • Good understanding of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript. JavaScript frameworks like Ember, AngularJS, React, etc, or JS-based build tools like Grunt, Role Description Corporate User Experience Designer, OHS Solutions, IMITS Page 2 of 2 Gulp, and Bower.
  • Libraries like jQuery or Backbone.
  • Front-end (CSS) frameworks like Foundation or Bootstrap. AJAX. Familiarity with Accessibility standards and how to apply them.

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Job Type: Casual full-time hours (37.5 hours per week)
Wage: $35.00 - $43.00/hour – as a casual employee, total earnings includes an additional 12.6% in lieu of benefits and paid time off. The rate for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
