Who we are: Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) is part think-tank, part software incubator. We work with partners in government, philanthropy and the private sector to apply science and geospatial data to help solve earth’s climate-related problems. SIG was formed in 1998 as a collaboration between several university professors, and we still retain our academic roots. We are a 100% remote company with headquarters in California and a staff of more than 50 working around the globe.

We are looking for: a UI/UX Designer to join our team and contribute to the design and development of high-impact, science-sharing web applications.


As a UI/UX Designer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, and stakeholders, to create intuitive and engaging user interfaces that enhance the overall user experience. Your primary focus will be on understanding user needs, conducting research, designing wireframes and prototypes, and delivering high-quality visual designs. The ideal candidate is passionate about user-centered design principles, stays up-to-date with industry trends, and possesses strong problem-solving skills.


The successful candidate will have the expertise and experience to build decision support tools for our clients across the Americas, Africa, and Southeast Asia. SIG is a digitally native organization with personnel distributed across three continents. Therefore, the position is for remote work only, preferably based in US compatible timezones.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct user research and gather user requirements to inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define project goals, scope, and functionality requirements for web applications.
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and prototypes to visualize and communicate design ideas effectively.
  • Design intuitive user interfaces that align with brand guidelines and enhance the overall user experience.
  • Develop interactive prototypes using industry-standard tools to validate and iterate on design concepts.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure seamless integration of design concepts and provide support during the implementation phase.
  • Conduct usability testing and gather feedback to make data-driven design decisions and iterate on designs.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to UI/UX design for web applications.
  • Assist in maintaining design systems, style guides, and UI pattern libraries to ensure design consistency across web applications.


You are a great candidate if you bring to SIG:

  • 1-2 years experience with UX/UI
  • 1-2 years experience with UX Research
  • Familiarity with web accessibility principles and design
  • Experience with design systems and pattern libraries
  • Experience working in a CMS
  • Strong sense of design and attention to detail

Terms of employment: The position is recruited on a full time employment basis, part-time negotiable. In addition, part-time consultancy work may also be considered depending on the experience and availability of the candidate.

Salary range: $80,000-90,000
