Surgalign is looking for an eager product designer to join our summer internship program, workIng on user interface design and the interface design system for the company’s HOLO AI suite of products. The internship would be for 20-40 hours a week for approximately 10-12 weeks.

Surgalign is an emerging medical technology and artificial intelligence (AI) leader. First in the spine industry, tripling the business over the past five years, we are now building out our digital platform driven by AI-based medical imaging and surgery solutions. WHAT YOU WILL DO FOR US:

During the summer internship program, the UI Designer intern will interact with senior leaders and learn from our team members and business partners, all while making direct contributions to Surgalign’s products. You will collaborate with fellow designers, researchers, and members of Surgalign’s product and development groups to create innovative, intuitive, and great-looking interfaces that people benefit from and are delighted to use. Specific duties include:

  • Organizing and developing the user interface design system for the organization’s suite of Digital Health AI products
  • Supporting the Digital Health product design team in creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes of user interface designs for upcoming product releases
  • Participating in design reviews and brainstorming sessions with Product Design, Product Management, Marketing, and R&D
  • Participating in agile product development activities such as daily standups, backlog grooming, and sprint planning/reviews.
  • Coordinating with members of the R&D team regarding design handover, feedback, and iteration
  • Developing and documenting the process of design handover, specifically as it relates to the user interface design system
  • Meeting with your mentor and manager on a regular basis to discuss progress, issues, and give feedback.

WHO YOU ARE: (List all required skills, experience, qualifications and education).

  • A recent graduate or current student of a design related discipline at a trade school, university, or college, pursuing a degree in product design, interface design, interaction design, user interface (UI) design, user experience (UX) design, human centered design (HCD), or related field.
  • Completed your Junior year (if pursuing a Bachelors) or beyond at the time of the internship. Exceptional rising Junior or Sophomore year students may also be considered.
  • Proficient with modern interface design and prototyping tools (specifically Figma)
  • Able to learn new technologies, tools, and platforms quickly
  • Prior experience or familiarity creating and maintaining a user interface design system
  • Prior experience or familiarity with the concepts of interface design
  • You have an eye for good design
  • Able to provide samples of your previous UI design projects (please include a link or attachments with your application)
  • Available for a 10-12 week internship between May and September of 2023. We are unable to accommodate internships outside of this time frame.
