We are looking for a research intern with expertise in clinical informatics, AI/ML UX research & design, and human-computer interaction to help us understand user needs and challenges in healthcare and professional caregiving workflows. We are looking for an intern who likes conducting foundational research and is comfortable with ideation and user-centered design. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical abilities, experience with user research and design, knowledge of elder and child caregiving.

Responsibilities

Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.

  • Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in biomedical/clinical informatics, computational biology/genomics or related health behavior, human computer-interaction program.

Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to conduct independent research.
  • Analyze real-world data to explore opportunities for modeling and indirect supervision.
  • Conduct rapid experimentation and deep engagement for real-world delivery and impact.
  • Propose novel approaches for unsolved research problems.
  • Knowledgeable in user research methodology, qualitative and quantitative.
  • Ability to develop an original user research plan.
  • Excellent communication skills, cross-group, and cross-culture collaboration.
  • Experience conducting stakeholder interviews in healthcare or public health settings.
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to identify stakeholder needs and pain points.
  • Experience translating user needs and developing empathy for the user through a deep understanding of user-centered design methods and applications.
  • Ability to create customer journey maps and apply innovative approaches to communicate user insights
  • Clinical informatics background in healthcare or medical discovery.
  • Knowledge of elderly and childcare platforms

Applied Sciences IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $5,090 - $10,120 per month.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $6,690 - $11,030 per month.

Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $6,290 - $12,170 per Monthly.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $8,060 - $13,240 per Monthly.
