On our team “why” is our favorite question. Come learn with us and gain hands-on experience in market research, customer insights, and user experience research. You will have the opportunity to both assist and take the lead on quantitative research projects (surveys), qualitative research projects (customer interviews) and user experience research projects (observation and usability testing). You will gain experience in all parts of the research process–question gathering, goal creation, execution, analysis, presentation, and more, all the while communicating with various stakeholders across the company. You will be working on projects that influence critical business decisions and have actionable insights for teams across TechSmith. TechSmith encourages interns to express their own distinctive talents and discover their own passions. Our interns have direct contact with TechSmith customers, so this position requires excellent verbal and written communications skills.Interns can be any year in college, they do not have to be upperclassmen. TechSmith will also sponsor “internships for credit” and do any associated paperwork to support their interns in those courses.This internship would be a co-op internship which means this intern will work 12-18 hours year round. Interns are hired for one term (summer or 1 semester) and are evaluated for additional terms toward the end of their first term with TechSmith. Our goal is to have interns for up to or beyond a year if they are successful. We also hope to consider full-time employment after graduation if there is mutual interest and an available position.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative research, such as in-depth interviews and surveys to deeply understand our customers
- Assist the User Experience Researcher in usability testing for our software products
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative research data and translate results into meaningful insights through coding and tagging
- Develop a thorough understanding of TechSmith users, how our products solve their problems, and advocate for them when working with internal stakeholders
- Experience a real-world view of the software industry and learn key business strategies and tactics
- Interact with customers and partners all over the world
- Use storytelling to deliver reports or summaries of information that help drive our team forward
- Advocate for the customer (and what the data says) even if you are the only one in the room doing so
- Brainstorm and collaborate with cross-department teams to select the right research method for the problem
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Background:
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Pursuing a degree in research, marketing, communication, media & information, user experience, human-computer interaction or a related field
- Must be resourceful, self-motivated, customer-focused, and able to work on a team
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and listening skills
- Good organization skills and capability to multi-task
- Ability to pay close attention to detail
- Ability to give and receive detailed feedback.
- Dependable, self-directed employee with a good work history
- Comfortable with experimenting, even if that means failure
- You must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- You must be enrolled for at least 6 credits (undergrad) or 3 credits (grad) for fall and/or spring semesters to be considered for an internship with TechSmith Corporation. Summer class enrollment is not required.
- Requires at least 12 - 18 hours per week
Preferred Skills and Background:
- Have a solid understanding of the research process and its value to an organization.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Experience with survey tools
- Ability to work at TechSmith for two consecutive semesters
Compensations and Benefits:
Competitive pay based on skills and experience. This is an hourly position with TechSmith Corporation. Hours are based on a consensus between you and your supervisor. We require a minimum of 12 hours per week; however, hours are limited to 20 hours per week.
