Position Profile:RESEARCH ASSISTANT (Summer Student)

Design for Health

Location: Wilson site, Humber River Hospital, Toronto

Type: Fulltime, contract (paid)

Start date: 01 May 2023 or shortly after (negotiable)

Term: 3–4 months

Reports to: Manager of Research Operations

THE BASICS

Are you excited by the thought of shaping the future of healthcare in Canada? Do you want to join a growing team which aims to make transformative changes to the healthcare system?

Humber River Hospital is launching a research institute dedicated to health services research, with the aim of transforming the delivery of healthcare in both our hospital and community settings, through the application of digital tools and novel innovations.

We are looking for 1–2 awesome Research Assistants for the summer, with amazing skills in design for health to join the team and help contribute to an incredible research environment. You’ll apply your design expertise to contribute to our work in the creation of new applications and methods for patients to interact with the healthcare system. You should be someone who loves to explore and test design concepts, collaborate with researchers and clinicians, and be passionate about transforming the healthcare system to improve how care is delivered.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Co-design elements of the user experience in tomorrow’s digital healthcare system.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams which include researchers, physicians, and developers.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities on multiple research projects simultaneously.
  • Help write academic journal articles and grant applications.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You have significant training and/or experience in a design- or healthcare-related discipline (i.e., design for health, health services research, UX design, human-computer interaction, psychology etc.), at the master’s degree level.
  • You’re familiar with concepts such as co-design, service design, human-centred design.
  • You’re a pro with area-specific tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, Tableau, R, etc.
  • You have strong knowledge of research best practices, the Canadian healthcare system, and the healthcare funding landscape. Finish
  • You’re able to communicate your ideas to a range of audiences and integrate the feedback you receive to improve your work.
  • You have a desire to positively change the way healthcare is delivered using the newest digital tools.
