Overview:Our Device Experience team is seeking a full-time Product Designer 1 located in our Olathe, KS office, focused on designing user experiences for the products built by our Outdoor and Fitness segments. This team covers a variety of needs, including wearables, backcountry, golf, diving, cycling, satcom and tactical tools. In this UX-focused role, you will be responsible for understanding fundamental usability and user centered design principals to guide software user interface development for various products with different specifications as well as working closely with software engineers, graphics artists, and product managers of the assigned project.Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Design and prototype new user experiences for new features and products.
  • Communicate, research and designs using mockups, story boarding, visual presentations and writing behavioral documentation
  • Produce creative, simple, and highly usable solutions for how products interact in response to human behavior
  • Document clear, organized solutions that are highly understandable in flow, function and status by stakeholders, engineers, and unfamiliar eyes
  • Work closely with software engineers, graphics artists, and product managers of the assigned project in determining design directions
  • Assist with new user interface testing and conduct usability tests to get feedback on new designs where applicable
  • Collaborate with and communicate to teams in engineering and product managers to produce superior solutions
  • Adapt designs as needed, expecting some ambiguity and change during a project
  • Maintain and ensure user interface design and behavioral consistency across product types
  • Remain current on user interface design trends and competitors’ designs
  • Stay abreast with new prototyping, presentation or computer graphics techniques and software
  • Communicate status of work clearly and provide visibility to supervisor or mentor

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in User Experience Design, Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Proficiency and exceptional skills in creating different types of prototypes or mock-ups using tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of good user interface design (consistency, simplicity, usability)

Desired Qualifications

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience in graphics production, graphics editing technology, motion graphics, interactive design works and/or videography.
  • Software skills using Adobe Flash or After Affects, Adobe InDesign, and/or 3D Studio Max
