Junior UX/I Designer

FABCYCLE is a social enterprise based in Vancouver, dedicated to collecting textile waste from apparel manufacturers and diverting it from landfills. Our mission extends into our innovative eCommerce platform, where we offer deadstock fabrics and sewing supplies to a community passionate about sustainability. As we enhance our digital services to improve user interaction and efficiency, we seek a Junior UX/UI Designer to help us further our environmental and digital goals.

Role Summary:

The Junior UX/UI Designer will be crucial in developing user-centric interfaces for our digital platforms, contributing to impactful projects that enhance our online presence and customer experience. This position is ideal for those who wish to apply their design skills in a meaningful, environmentally-focused context.

Responsibilities:

• Design and refine user interfaces across digital platforms using Figma.
• Collaborate with our digital team to transform concepts into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and final designs.
• Tackle UX challenges and innovate to improve site navigation and user engagement.
• Participate actively in design iterations, maintaining a cohesive visual and operational narrative across platforms.
• Engage with team members to receive and provide feedback, ensuring alignment with user expectations and business objectives.

Requirements:

• Proven UX/UI design experience, with a strong portfolio featuring projects in Figma.
• Basic understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, aiding in practical design execution.
• Familiarity with other visual design tools such as Adobe XD and Sketch is beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of responsive and adaptive design principles.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Nice to Have:

Experience or a hobby in working with textiles or sewing, and/or passion for sustainability and environmental conservation, although not mandatory, would be an asset, as it aligns closely with our company’s focus and could provide additional insights into user needs.

** IMPORTANT ** Eligibility Requirements

As part of the DS4Y Program, candidates must be:

• Post-secondary graduates across Canadian provinces are eligible as well as High School graduates in Territories. And must be between 15-30 years of age.
• Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada. And must be unemployed, underemployed or hold part-time employment.

Hours of Work: 20-30 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Compensation: $24/hour

Term: June 24, 2024 and until February 28 with a possibility for renewal.
