Upanup is looking for a full-time permanent Junior UI Designer to help us create accessible, professional, and user-friendly website designs for our growing client base of government and utility providers across Canada and the United States.

What will you do on the job?
- Assist with the design of website interfaces, components, and layouts, under the guidance of senior designers and in consultation with developers and/or the UX Director
- Contribute to internal tasks and projects, under the guidance of senior designers and/or the UX Director
- Assist with usability testing, including facilitating user testing sessions and contributing to documented analysis on client projects
- Participate in internal and client reviews, providing support to the project team
What traits are needed for the job?
- Experience and interest in UX (User Experience)/UI design
- Strong written and verbal communication

What are the requirements for the position?
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a design related field or equivalent experience
- 1 to 2 years of experience in a professional design environment
- Experience using Figma and/or Adobe Creative Cloud
- A portfolio of work demonstrating a working knowledge of modern UI design
Preference may be given to candidates with any of the following:
- Experience using or designing for content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress
- Experience writing HTML and CSS
- Freelance work experience
- Previous work experience in municipal government or utilities sectors
- Experience using assistive technology
What can you expect from an employment agreement?
- Permanent full-time position, with health benefits starting after three months
- Three weeks of paid vacation
- Starting salary of $50,000 to $55,000 commensurate with experience
For the first three months of employment, the Junior UI Designer will be required to work in the office 4 times per week. After three months, they will be expected to embrace our hybrid framework that currently includes working in an office for at least 8 hours per week, where we benefit from the social interactions and efficiencies of seeing people face-to-face. Employees can choose the amount they would like to work from home for the remaining hours each week.
