Job Title: Intern, bizzNEST Web & Graphic Design Team
Pay Rate: $15.50/hour, non-exempt


Temporary, Part-time: 15-20 hours per week


Benefits: CA Sick Time Off


Organization size: 50+ employees


Reports to: Associate Director, bizzNEST Web & Design


Location(s): Interns are on-site positions at either the Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy, and/or Modesto Center.


JOB OVERVIEW:


Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from working-class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. It is an exciting time for the NEST as we are on the precipice of expanding to a total of five communities across Northern California by the end of 2026. Digital NEST has centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy, Stockton and Modesto. The first Digital NEST in the Central Valley is expected to launch in Stockton in 2023, with plans to scale across the Bay Area and San Joaquin Valley also underway.


The Web Development and Design Intern is an integral part of the bizzNEST team. bizzNEST is Digital NEST’s paid, professional on-the-job training 1-year-long internship program. Through this program, Interns hone and develop their technical and professional skills, gain real professional experience by working with real-world clients, build professional level portfolios and resumes, and become competitively qualified for entry-level, career-track jobs.


Digital NEST is looking for motivated interns who can assist with our graphic and web design projects. Interns will work on creating visually appealing and functional websites. They will also work on identity systems and print projects for our clients. We are seeking quick learners who have a passion for web and graphic design.


The primary focus of this internship is web and graphic design. Interns will work under staff supervision to design websites, digital and print graphics. Additionally, web development experience will be available to interested interns. This internship provides a professional development and portfolio building experience. We execute the majority of our web projects using tools such as Figma, Elementor, and the Wordpress Blocks editor. For graphic design we utilize the Adobe Suite.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Web / UI Design ( 35%):


  • Create information architecture and sitemap
  • Create website concepts with wireframes and mockups
  • Implement changes to the work based on client and staff feedback
  • Design websites using Figma and Photoshop
  • Implement designs using HTML, CSS, Wordpress Blocks and Elementor


Graphic Design (35%):


  • Work with the team to develop and follow brand guidelines for project consistency
  • Create digital and print materials such as flyers, brochures, and website graphics
  • Implement changes based on client and staff feedback


Other (30 %):


  • Attend and complete workshops and online training as assigned
  • Log all work and progress on Asana.
  • participate in professional development activities. Mentorship programing, pursue certifications, etc
  • Support onboarding of new interns seasonally


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Interested in pursuing further study in Web Design, Digital Media, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Passion for the mission of Digital NEST and belief in upholding organization’s core values.
