JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for an Information Design Intern to work closely with three departments in the company: Performance & Learning, Marketing, and Technical Writing. Are you curious about how information design applies to the worlds of technical communication, learning & development, and marketing? Have you been wondering what it would be like to support the brand identity of a company in multiple forms? Are you interested in seeing your designs have a tangible impact on real people?
This position will end on August 26, 2023, unless otherwise articulated through a standard Co-Op or intern term or other post-secondary requirements. We’re keen to work with your institution. This is a full-time hourly opportunity starting June 2, 2023, with a regular 8 hour schedule.
WHO ARE YOU?
- You are a student or recent graduate of an Information Design program.
- You have some experience with Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and XD.
- You thrive in a fast-paced environment, take initiative, and are a self-starter.
- Experience with whiteboarding tools (Miro, Mural, or similar) and messaging tools (Microsoft Teams, Slack, or similar).
- You have some experience with the Microsoft suite of apps (Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, etc.).
- You can present and communicate your ideas and designs with confidence and clarity.
- You are mostly self-directed, and you regularly check in to see if your progress is aligning with the broader goals of the project and the business.
- You have a knack for creating clarity out of complexity when it comes down to breaking down technical information for non-technical audiences.
- You recognize the importance of corporate style guides in establishing the look and feel of a business.
- You appreciate opportunities to see projects through all the way from ideation to publication, rather than focusing on certain bits and pieces along the way.
- You have a portfolio of design and writing work that showcases your attention to detail, creativity and problem-solving skills. Emphasis on design process and not just the final outcome is appreciated.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Many projects you would be involved in require cross-functional collaboration between other teams at Blackline, such as Customer Care, Product Management, and UX Design services, including technical user manuals, installation guides, firmware release notes, and other customer-facing communication.
- The Performance & Learning team creates interactive and engaging learning experiences to train our employees, distributors and customers on how to safely use our products and services.
- The Technical Writing team creates all technical communication related to our products and creativity and problem-solving skills.
- The Marketing team creates internal and public-facing communications and visualizations, including case studies, white papers, and videos, that supports sales initiatives and drives interest in the company.
- Creating an engaging and interactive learning experience based on provided materials.
- Revitalizing previously released technical communications to ensure the information is updated and matches Blackline’s voice and identity.
- Restructuring internal support pages to help employees quickly and easily locate marketing materials.
