About Bonsai Robotics

Bonsai Robotics' mission is to create the next leap forward in agriculture equipment efficiency by creating a new ecosystem of semi-autonomous robotic machinery. Orchards are dusty, hazard-filled, and GPS-denied. The GPS-based autosteer features that have driven row crop efficiencies cannot function in orchards. Our vision, AI, and machine control systems offer human-level environment understanding and local navigation capabilities and will be the platform for a new wave of innovation in agricultural production and management systems.

We simultaneously solve twin crises impacting nut growers and most of specialty agriculture: there is not enough human labor when you need it, and operational expenses are growing dramatically. Our state-of-the-art technology empowers orchard managers to optimize their operations, dramatically reduce operational expenses, and increase profitability. We are pursuing a Bonsai Inside strategy, and partnering with the largest orchard Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the retrofitting of existing machines and design of new form factors.

About the role

Bonsai Robotics is seeking a skilled Designer to lead the UX/UI for Bonsai’s web application and robots.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in visual and experiential design, with a focus on UI, UX, and aesthetics.  This candidate will enable the work of Bonsai’s web and app engineering team and have a major impact on the company’s products and end users.

What you'll do

  • Oversee the design, UI, and UX of Bonsai’s web and mobile applications
  • Work with product managers and end customers to design UX for Bonsai-enabled vehicles, including Human-machine Interfaces (HMI)
  • Infuse design elements and thinking to all areas of Bonsai work, ensuring continuity across the company
  • Own evolution and updates to Bonsai’s website and other online presence
  • Assist the marketing, sales, product, and executive teams with visualizations and experiences
  • Enable the visual representation of Bonsai internally and externally

Qualifications

Strong candidates will exhibit the following key traits:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in design, art, computer science, or related field
  • Experience with UI/UX for web and mobile applications with a strong portfolio
  • Experience with human-machine interaction, experiential design, and AI products
  • A keen eye for detail and bringing seemingly unrelated things together with a singular look and feel
  • Background in experiential design and user experience across a broad range of industries and products

Bonus points for:

  • Experience or background in UX/UI for autonomous vehicles
  • Experience or background in agriculture, especially orchards and tree nuts
  • Web design/coding skills and experience
  • Experience in branding and other marketing-related tasks

Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio showcasing previous work as part of the application process.

Bonsai Robotics values diversity, inclusivity, and excellence in hiring and strongly encourages candidates from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
