A career at Arup offers you the chance to make a positive difference in the world. Independently owned and independently minded, we attract a diverse mix of people to work on ground-breaking global projects. We have an ambitious commitment to be the digital leader in the built environment and have digital teams and experts all over the world, who collaborate on world-leading software, data and technology projects and products. Being a global team means we value people with diverse experiences, backgrounds, specialisms, and skills.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a digital designer. In this role you’ll be exposed to a wide range of activities and technologies in a thriving and highly technical environment. You will discover how engineers work in different disciplines and cultures and what they need to help them do it.

You will be supported where needed by subject matter experts, technical specialists, and graphic designers in mixed ability teams. You will be able to guide your own work and you have the opportunity to work flexibly from home.

You will be expected to attend and actively participate in team meetings, group meetings and user forums on a regular basis and to play an active role in Arup’s skills networks and digital transformation initiatives.

This role will work closely with others in the Digital Development team, with the wider Digital Technology Group and with colleagues in business groups and engineering teams.

You should apply for this role if:

  • You get satisfaction from discovering how people work and what could help them
  • You like exploring ideas and investigating solutions
  • You are insatiably curious about how people design the environment that we live in

The responsibilities of this role include:

·         Setting up and carrying out interviews and other forms of research with engineers and other users

·         Creating simple prototypes to convey ideas

·         Defining and carrying out user acceptance tests

·         Writing and delivering reports based on your research

·         Playing with the software, reading around the subject and talking to subject matter experts to discover what software is supposed to do

·         Working closely with the stakeholders and development team to ensure that features, enhancements, and changes meet user acceptance tests

·         Helping make the software accessible to different users in different cultures

Role:

·         Working closely with engineers and product managers to understand the product

·         Developing workflows and use cases that stand for the way users behave to carry out their tasks

·         Developing prototypes and wireframes to use for research and communicate with developers

·         Playing with the software, reading around the subject and talking to subject matter experts to discover what software is supposed to do

·         Assist in developing design ideations

·         Presenting design thinking and decisions to the team and stakeholders

Please don’t be discouraged if you don’t meet every point below – if you meet most, and are strongly motivated by the role, and willing to learn, we are still interested in hearing from you.
