The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC), School of Education invites talented and enthusiastic candidates to apply for the role of Design and Technology Associate. The Design and Technology Associate will support the development of accessible multimedia materials. The associate will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop accessible publications which are disseminated and posted on the CTI website which may include but are not limited to marketing materials, infographics, guides, fact sheets, brochures, and slides.

Established in 1983, the Virginia Commonwealth University RRTC provides resources for professionals, individuals with disabilities, and their representatives. The center includes a team of researchers committed to developing and advancing evidence-based practices to increase the hiring and retention of individuals with disabilities. The center has 100+ faculty and staff, who are grant funded through a variety of funding sources. We are located a few blocks from Oliver Hall on the Monroe Park campus.

Typical Duties:

Design print and digital publications that may include flyers, fast facts, infographics, guides, toolkits, forms, poster board presentations and slides.

Make all publications accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Utilize design techniques, tools and principles, and advanced layout and typography.

Ensure all work is consistent with established VCU, CTI, and Transition RRTC brand guidelines and strategy, and maintain up-to-date editorial brand guidelines.

Collaborate with other team members to plan, analyze, organize, and execute assigned projects.

Coordinate project deliverables with third party vendors.

Assist Communications Generalist with tasks related to filming such as setting up and breaking down equipment on location, post-production (managing footage, assembling footage), creating visual looks/styles for projects, and captioning.

Provide backup for social media postings and electronic newsletter.

Provide technical assistance during online meetings.

Assist with updating online course content.

Assist in creating templates for projects.

Complete administrative duties such as copying, scanning, responding to emails, mailing, scheduling conference calls and meetings, and preparing documents such as reports or presentations for other staff members.

Assist as needed with special events and trainings.

Maintain working order of office printer, order office and technology supplies.

Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in graphic design, public relations, marketing, education, multimedia design, digital design or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Substantial experience in graphic design for print and digital media including development, design, and maintenance of publications and marketing materials.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Premier Pro, Photoshop, Audition) and Microsoft Office products.

Understanding of the fundamentals of visual communication and design and information design.

Engages the elements of photography, typography, graphic layout, color, to deliver the intended message.

Knows and uses current and emerging design and digital trends.

Ability to consult with project teams to create cohesive products that reflect CTI’s and the Transition RRTC’s goals.

Work independently and collaboratively with team members to develop concepts and deliverables that meet marketing and communication objectives.

Ensures quality work while meeting deadlines.

Ability to provide creative solutions to problems and be innovative, self-motivated, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to respond to continually changing priorities and work well with ambiguity when requirements are still in flux.

Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage multiple projects and requests.

Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.

Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and editing skills.

Appreciates diversity and respects differences.

Communicates respectfully to internal and external project members.

Demonstrates respect, honesty, excellence, responsibility and accountability; stewardship; compliance; and a commitment to integrity and ethical behavior by example in his/her day-to-day activities.

Use all office resources, including the telephone, office equipment, electronic communications, and the Internet, in a responsible manner and according to University policies and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with video and audio equipment and software.

Experience with copy writing and editing, marketing, and/or social media.

Knowledge of how to make documents accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Basic UX experience.


Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000
