This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a consistent, relevant and up-to-date visual design and experience for all web and online initiatives within the College.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Creates wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps that focus on end user experience and communicate interaction and design ideas across all VCC websites and mobile platforms.
  2. Establishes, promotes, maintains and enforces web design guidelines, best practices and standards in collaboration with graphic design team.
  3. Works collaboratively with web and graphic design teams to conceptualize and implement original web design ideas with a focus on simplicity and user experience.
  4. Presents in a clear manner, recommends and defends design concepts in a persuasive approach and integrates constructive feedback from peers, faculty and staff as needed.
  5. Creates user personas through research and data and conducts usability testing with relevant user groups based on personas.
  6. Ensures digital creative follows and adheres to current accessibility best practices and requirements.
  7. Provides additional support in developing, implementing and updating web-based materials, tools and initiatives when required in collaboration with web team members. Works collaboratively with web team members to provide training and support to peers, faculty, and staff for all VCC web content management systems and applications.
  8. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from a 3-year Community College program in web design, UX/UI design and/or front-end web development and over four (4) years of proven experience designing complex websites, mobile apps, and digital marketing materials or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in HTMLS, CSS3 and Javascript.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator or other visual design and wire-framing tools.
  • Strong understanding of web design concepts, usability and content management issues.
  • Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction.
  • Knowledge in hand coding programming or scripting in PHP.
  • Knowledge of basic relational database concepts, basic SQL, and various database access methods.
  • Ability to provide web design advice and support in the College community.
  • Experience in testing across multiple browsers and platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux) to ensure conformance to requirements.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Self-motivated, analytical, resourceful and solution-oriented.
  • Flexible with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Detail oriented.
